In order to reduce the risk of injuries and improve the efficacy of its protective solutions, Cirque du Soleil wanted to develop digital impact models for various receiving surfaces (mattresses, nets, etc.). The project’s objective was, first, to correlate the models with experimental test results, then to validate different impact scenarios, and, finally, to optimize the construction of the receiving surfaces to ensure their precise application, always prioritizing the artists’ safety.
THE SOLUTION:
Sim-optimization turnkey service
- Simulate multiple fall conditions with Hybrid II, 50th percentile dummies;
- Conduct characterization tests on various materials;
- Correlate numerical models with experimental data;
- Measure the indications of injury on the dummies from the various scenarios to assess the performance of simulated protection solutions and to predict the risk of injury;
- Use simulation techniques to improve the performance of protection solutions;
- Recommend the exact dimensions of the receiving surfaces for each application.
THE RESULTS:
- Proven solution for predicting the safety of various receiving surfaces;
- Rapid assessment of new fall scenarios;
- Recommendations for improving safety and performance.
